Brest : Classified tourist resort
The city of Brest has just received institutional recognition as a classified tourist resort by decree from the Ministry of the Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs.
Among the many existing distinctions in the field of tourism, the "Classified Tourist Resort" label is the supreme reward, a guarantee of quality offered to tourists which is granted to the most attractive towns or cities.
The City of Brest entrusted the Office of Tourism with the preparation of the classification file in 2012, which, with the support of the local authority's services, was able to meet the 45 mandatory criteria. The file was then examined for a year by the prefecture and then the ministry.
45 criteria divided into seven themes are required to obtain the tourist resort label:
- Offer easy access, circulation and quality services
- Offer tourist accommodation of various types and categories
- Ensure the reception, organisation, development and promotion of tourism
- Offer commercial services and proximity health care facilities
- Offer cultural creations and events, facilitate physical and sporting activities
- Implementing and promoting professional expertise of a traditional, historical, gastronomic or regional nature
- Ensure high quality urban development and heritage enhancement
This award, which is valid for a twelve-year period, follows the certification " touristic commune " in 2011, the " Quality Tourism " label awarded to the Office of Tourism in December 2013, and the classification of the latter in category 1, the most prestigious category, in January 2014.
It is also, and above all, the result of the tourism policy implemented by the City and the Brest metropolis for many years. It also reflects the actions carried out on themes as varied as cultural and sporting events, the quality of the living environment, the enhancement of the heritage, information and tourist accommodation... and on themes such as safety, hygiene, the structure of healthcare or even access to the town, pedestrian traffic and town planning.
Finally, it reflects the daily commitment of all of the region's tourism stakeholders. This classification also underlines the professionalism in terms of reception and tourism promotion, a strong commitment of the region in terms of development.
