Saint Malo street in Brest
The alley nestles in the lower part of Recouvrance. It appears as a challenge. A challenge to time. Because for 300 years, it has been a challenge to canonballs, bombs and the destructive madness of men who didn't spare the city.
It remains the only contemporary Brest street of the Revolution.
The street also appears as a challenge to authoritarianism. In fact, looking at its history, a turbulant past with streams of characters emerge. An example of that is Belle Tamisier who set fire to the women’s prison, the “Refuge Royal”, one Carnival evening in 1782.
Since November 1990, the association Vivre la rue has been trying to give back to the people of Brest who are in search of roots, a heritage area where the festive, cultural and convivial dimensions are present.
Recouvrance District, rue Saint Malo.
